The St George area and Sutherland Shire is a long geographic run with real variation. Kogarah and Hurstville are denser, with unit blocks, older brick homes and established street trees over ageing sewer. Sutherland, Miranda and Caringbah are classic post-war family housing on decent blocks, where the drainage is old enough that root intrusion at earthenware joints is our most common single call-out.
Cronulla brings salt exposure that shortens the life of external fittings, relief valves and hot water casings. Menai and Engadine sit on the bush edge on sandstone, with steep driveways, long service runs and, on some properties, pumps and tanks. Distances between jobs are longer here than in the inner suburbs, so we are honest about arrival windows for the southern end rather than quoting a city-style response time.
A family had a toilet backing up every few months and had been paying for a clear each time. We jetted the line properly, cut the roots back to the pipe wall, then camera-surveyed and found two failed joints under a paperbark. We quoted a reline of that section so they stop paying for the same clear twice a year.
A steep bush-edge property had water tracking down the driveway from somewhere above the garage. Acoustic detection traced it to a failed section of supply line under paving rather than the retaining wall as assumed. We opened one paver run, replaced the failed length and reinstated the surface without excavating the driveway.
